Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing

What is EMDR and how can it help?

When we experience events that overwhelm our brain's capacity to cope, our fight, flight, or freeze response on the emotional/right side of the brain becomes over-activated. The natural result can look like depression, anxiety, or a variety of other presentations.

EMDR is a therapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences that overwhelm the brain's capacity to cope.

EMDR therapy shows that the mind can heal from psychological trauma much like the body recovers from physical trauma. In successful EMDR therapy, the meaning of painful events is transformed on an emotional level.
